Hatha Yoga

When someone says the word “Yoga” they are probably referring to Hatha yoga. Most people don’t realize it, but Hatha is the most common type of yoga, and unless they specify otherwise, it is the type that they practice. Hatha and the general term “yoga” have come to mean the same thing in the U.S.

Classes that have the name “Hatha yoga” are some of the best for beginners. These classes are very easy going and have a nice slow pace to them so that you have time to really figure out the motions. If you’ve never done yoga before and want to become comfortable with it, these classes are a great place to start.

Many people start in a Hatha yoga class and then move up to something a little more challenging. There are plenty of other forms of yoga that require more focus and involve more motion, but most of them are based off of the motions you learn in Hatha. So if you aren’t sure where to start with yoga, you might want to look into some studios that offer Hatha classes.
